Migraines: What Causes Them and How Can a Chiropractor Help?

Posted on 2012-02-09 08:48:26

Migraine relief from Carlsbad chiropractor.jpgMigraines are a debilitating interruption in day-to-day life that affect millions of people every year. Unlike a normal tension headache, a migraine has the power to cause vision problems, nausea and balance impairments. Unfortunately, there is no single known cause of migraine headaches, although there are certain lifestyle and health factors that can trigger them.

Some of the most common migraine triggers are foods, such as chocolate, caffeine, dairy, MSG and alcohol. For some, strong fragrances or loud noises may trigger the headaches. Still further, simple lifestyle habits, such as sleep habits, stress levels and exercise habits may contribute to a recurring migraine. It is important to keep in mind, however, that migraine triggers are different for everybody and may be associated with any environmental stimulus or an underlying health condition.

Wellness Care for Migraines Can Benefit
the Entire Body

At our Carlsbad wellness center, we address the health of the whole body, rather than just treat a symptom. Many people associate chiropractic care with treatment for back pain or neck pain, failing to realize that it has an effect on the body's overall wellness and can also be a beneficial way of treating migraine patients. For most people, a migraine is not the problem, but instead a symptom of another health condition.

Chiropractors often discover that a recurrent migraine is the result of a misalignment in the neck or back - perhaps caused by poor posture, strenuous activity or an old untreated sports or auto accident injury. When migraine patients first visit us, we examine the spine and neck and ask a number of questions about lifestyle habits. Once we identify the root cause of the headache, we may recommend changes to diet, sleep or exercise habits, as well as use a variety of methods to gently remove pressure from the nerves in the back and neck, and return the spinal vertebrae to proper alignment.

Have you ever had a migraine? Was it a one-time occurrence or do you experience them often?

Our Carlsbad Chiropractic Clinic Helps With Sciatica

Posted on 2011-10-28 12:26:12

Carlsbad chiropractors aid in pain management.jpgHere at our Carlsbad chiropractic clinic, West Coast Chiropractic we see a large number of patients who have sustained some type of damage to their sciatic nerve. The term "sciatica" refers to this sciatic nerve damage and while it is actually a very common personal injury, many patients are telling us that they want to know more about exactly what sciatica actually means.

Our Chiropractor Understands Pain Management

Sciatica may occur during an accident such as a car wreck because the sciatic nerve -- the longest in the human body -- is severely hit or jolted during an accident. The sciatic nerve is closely aligned with your entire back, leg, and goes to the end of your foot. Therefore, sciatic nerve pain that you feel in your middle back can easily move all the way down your body making the pain even worse.

When you have sciatica, you might feel back pain, neck pain, pain in your buttocks, pain in your legs, and even pain in your heel due to the length of the sciatic nerve and the way that it is connected to nearly your whole body. Our doctors will use careful chiropractic adjustments to properly position your spine so that the sciatic nerve is no longer being pinched, and is in the ideal position.

Pain management is a key focus in our treatment plans so that our patients are able to return to normal daily activity with a proactive stance against pain and an increase in wellness overall. Our chiropractors provide techniques and therapies to assist patients with pain management in the Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, and North County San Diego areas of California. The majority of our patients start to notice pain relief within the first few visits. Do you have sciatica questions? Please ask below!

What to Do After an Auto Accident

Posted on 2011-10-10 07:43:08

car_accident_front_view_med.jpgHave you sustained injuries in an accident? Do you still experience pain in your neck or your back? Our chiropractors at West Coast Chiropractic in Carlsbad, CA can help relieve your pain and get you on the road to recovery. Carlsbad auto accident treatment is available to residents in Oceanside, Vista, and other nearby towns as well.

Our chiropractors, Dr. Tyson Perez and Dr. Derek Rupp, represent over 25 years of combined professional experience and expertise. At our clinic, we provide experienced care to treat the injuries you have sustained in an accident.

Chiropractic Care Following an Auto Accident

If you have been involved in a minor or major auto accident, you can benefit from the knowledgeable and advanced care of our highly qualified chiropractors. Whether you are suffering from whiplash, neck pain, headaches, back pain, or overall body soreness, you should follow these valuable tips.

First and foremost, never assume you are fine following an accident. Even if you see no visible signs of injury or do not feel immediate pain, chances are you have internal injuries to your spine and soft tissues. Sometimes the pain of whiplash or back pain caused by an auto accident will not be felt for days, weeks, or even months after an accident.

Recognize that the majority of accident victims suffer whiplash, which is a violent motion forward and then back. This results in misalignment of the cervical vertebra and surrounding tissues. This condition initiates persistent pain in the neck and back, typically accompanied by constant headache pain or migraines.

Call us right away, so one of our experienced chiropractors can give you a physical examination to determine if you have any injuries. By receiving immediate care, you can feel better sooner, and recover range of motion and prevent scar tissue or other complications from developing as a result of your injuries.

Have you recently been involved in an auto accident? Did you receive chiropractic care for your injuries.

Chiropractic Treatment for the Whole Family

Posted on 2011-10-04 12:00:33

Carlsbad chiropractic care.jpgWhen choosing a Carlsbad chiropractor for your loved ones and yourself, you need more than a quick fix for back pain. Your family needs a team of caring professionals who will act in your best interests, not only as your chiropractors but as trusted friends. At West Coast Chiropractic, we put families first — and this blog plays an important role.

How do we help families just like yours? Of course we relieve acute pain from a personal injury, such as an auto accident or other unexpected trauma. When your spine undergoes a jolt or goes out of alignment, nerves get compressed, creating back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other acute discomfort. Our chiropractic team brings 25 years total experience to help diagnose the source of your pain and performing the necessary adjustments. We can treat any member of your family, from newborn to elderly, to provide effective, safe, drug-free relief.

Wellness Consultants for Optimal Health

But we go far beyond emergency treatments. Our team believes in wellness — the ongoing effort to keep your body healthy through best practices, such as good nutrition, regular exercise, and correct spinal alignment. The spine serves as both the nerve center and the structural center of the body — when you take care of your spine, the rest of you benefits.

When we say we can provide chiropractic care for all ages, we mean it. We offer prenatal care through the Webster technique to make sure your child gets the best possible start in life. We also perform pediatric adjustments to help your kids ward off common childhood ailments and encourage proper development.

We not only perform regular “maintenance checks” on your family members, but we also educate you on how to keep your posture straight and your body strong. This blog helps us help you by providing you with a regular stream of updates, health tips, and news to ensure wellness and care.
